I am a week late in posting this, but better late than never. Our peach trees produced for the first time this year, as I had previously posted, but being so small, they were not what I had wanted for canning halves. In past years, I have always put my name on a call list at one of the local orchards for when their Michigan Red Haven peaches come in. They are great peaches and freestone for easy pitting. When they came in, I bought a bushel specifically for canning.
Part of the end product. 30 quarts that will taste so awesome when snow is flying. :)

Excellent! How long does canned fruit last?
Well, some would probably say to make sure and use it within a year. I have eaten fruits and veggies older than that and lived to tell the tale. :) As long as the seal is still good, no funky odors or colors, I'm good with it. Granted, the peaches don't have much opportunity to last longer than that around here. :)
Very pretty. It will be good eating when it's cold outside, or really anytime! I like that you used the turkey fryer - great idea!
Thanks, Holley. The turkey fryer is great. We boil outside rather than heating up the house, and the size is perfect. We were able to put 1/4 bushel in each load. Makes the work go so much quicker!
These look beautiful! It's great to see that others still believe in canning- I'm the only person in my family that does it! I made a "carrot cake jam" a few weeks ago, and it turned out super delicious, so I'll be doing it for life. Enjoy the harvest :)

Your peaches look great (before and after)! I've never canned peaches before - may have to try this. I did quarts of grape juice over the weekend, which is super easy.
I Am excited to read more of your blog... I want to do all this...
Amazing job, sweet cousin! Very impressive and they look delish. I put up peaches as well (bought some on my way home from our reunion in Chilton County, actually), but I froze mine since I'm not a canner (as you well know). These will also be so tasty during the cold winter months. Mmmm, peach crisp!
Rachel, I love canning and the feeling that I have done something good for my family in the process. Enjoy your jam! I have never heard of that kind before...interesting!
Charlie, did you do your juice from grapes? Sounds time consuming, but I bet it tastes great! Can't beat fresh!
Tammy, thank you. Once we started canning our own peaches, I can't stand the thought of buying the ones in the store. There is just no comparison as I'm sure you can attest to by your frozen ones. :)
